Pok Pok- Probably one of my favorite restaurants in Portland

I know it gets a lot of hype but Pok Pok is one of the best restaurants in Portland. Their wings are just absolutely bomb. Even better than that….the grilled shrimp.  I’ve been lucky that I haven’t had to wait too much any of the times I’ve been.

The bomb ass shrimp from Pok Pok. So good.

Here’s a short vid I cut.

What is the best beach in Oregon to go to?

July 23rd, 2010
by eric

A question was recently asked as to what the best beach to visit in Oregon is. I grew up in Oregon and went to the beach frequently, but no longer live in the state so I am kind of wondering what people think the best beach is overall.

I’ve always liked Cannon Beach. As a kid, we rented a cabin on the beach front for a week and it was really cool. Very serene and being able to walk to Haystack Rock in the AM was awesome. Also always loved Seaside, mainly due to the Taffy and the Arcade.

Lincoln City? Newport? Manzanita? Bandon?

What say you?

Portland, Oregon- the best streetfood…in the WORLD?

July 20th, 2010
by eric

From CNN Travel:  http://www.cnn.com/2010/TRAVEL/07/19/worlds.best.street.food/index.html

This is real street food

THIS is real street food. Not a taco truck/food stand with a Twitter account.

Twitter isn't going to help you to find food like this.

I think this list is an absolute joke. I’m from Portland and currently live in LA and think that this is bullshit.

The thing about the street food in these cities is the general faux authenticity of everything. Food is being served ironically in some sort of campy-retro throwback. Generally the food served out of food stands is americanized for the palates of americans. Everything is pre-planned by hipsters and foodies in both of these town, there is an air of missing inauthenticity to it all. Give me some cabeza tacos from mexicans who have been doing it for hundreds of years, some home made pad thai from an 80 year old grandma, or sausages being served in the street. Generally the food from the food trucks in Portland and LA are really not that much different from food you would get at a carnival.

Just because a bunch of hipsters can put up a twitter account to their taco trucks doesn’t mean it makes it the worlds best.

Cool picture of Portland, Oregon back in the day

I love Oregon history….check out the eastside from back in the day. One thing I wish Oregon would do was embrace more of their historical side like they do in Vancouver, Canada.

Obviously the landscape has changed quite a bit….but it really brings you back
